How could a poor credit score impact a joint mortgage application?

Your credit report contains your individual financial information. However, it will also show the name of anyone you have a financial relationship with. If either of you have a poor credit score, it can adversely affect the other’s credit profile. This is because there’s a financial link between you both.

If someone you’re linked to has evidence of missed payments, CCJs or bankruptcies, creating a financial association could impact you.

It can be a good idea to check your credit score before making an application. You can find more about the steps you can take to improve your credit rating here.
