How to use the search filters to find properties for sale

This FAQ explains how to use the available search filters when looking for properties for sale. Filters can help you narrow down your search results, so you only see properties that match your requirements.


How/where to add filters to your search:

1. Visit rightmove.co.uk

2. Select the 'Buy' option and enter the Town/City or postcode area of where you’re wanting to move to in the search box.
3. You’ll then be taken to the page to apply your search criteria such as your price range, number of bedrooms, and property type.
4. Click the ‘Find Properties’ button to be taken through to the search results page of properties that are advertised with Estate and Letting Agents.
5. Once the search results page has loaded, you can then apply our advanced filters on the search results page within the ‘Filters’ menu. 


6. Once you have selected your preferred filters, click Done to apply them to your search.

What Filters are Available? 


When searching for properties for sale, you can use the available filters below to refine your results:


Bathrooms

Use the Bathrooms filter to choose the minimum and maximum number of bathrooms you would like a property to have.


It's important to note, a 'bathroom' includes a room with a bath or shower. A separate toilet cubicle is not counted as a bathroom.


Property Details

Under Property Details, you can choose when the property was added or recently reduced. The available options to choose from are:
  • Within the last 24 hours
  • Within the last 3 days
  • Within the last 7 days
  • Within the last 14 days


You can also choose whether to include the below in your search:
  • Under Offer properties
  • Sold STC (Sold Subject to Contract) properties


Tenure Type

Under Tenure Type, you can choose to include properties that are:
  • Freehold
  • Leasehold
  • Share of Freehold
You can select one or multiple tenure types.


Must Haves

Use the Must Have section to include properties that have specific features. 


The options you can choose from are:
  • Garden (Shows only properties that specifically mention having a garden. Communal and Public Gardens wouldn't appear under this filter)
  • Parking (Filters for listings that indicate allocated parking. On Street parking wouldn't appear)
  • New Home (Displays new build properties only)
  • Retirement Property (Shows listings related to retirement properties, Assisted Living and Sheltered Housing)
  • Buying Schemes (Filters properties that offer Shared Ownership or Help to Buy schemes)
  • Auction Properties (Displays properties listed for auction)
Selecting one or more of these options will include the matching properties in your search results.


Don't Show

Use the Don't Show section to remove certain property types from your search results.


Choose from the options below:
  • New Home (Removes new build properties only) 
  • Retirement Property (removes listings related to retirement properties, Assisted Living and Sheltered Housing) 
  • Buying Schemes (Removes properties that offer Shared Ownership or Help to Buy schemes) 
  • Auction Properties (Removes properties listed for auction)
Selecting one or more of these options will exclude matching properties from your search results.
